APGA re-strategizes to win Lagos governorship

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) is re-strategizing to win the governorship polls in Lagos State in 2015, the Chairman of the party in the state announced on Monday.
“APGA is repositioning structures to take over the governorship seat of Lagos State,’’ Mr Campbell Umeh-Nzekwe, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
“We have observed that Lagos is a one-man-show state; which is why we want to change that oligarchy.
“ Our structures are totally different from other political parties and we are a movement.
“We hear people say that we will go into alliance to be able to achieve this but we are saying that going into alliance is not in our agenda.
“We are winning the election on our own strength,’’ he added.
Umeh-Nzekwe, a one-time governorship candidate of APGA in 2003, said the needed change in the state would be given by APGA.
He said that the party would revive all its structures to achieve its aim.
Umeh-Nzekwe said the strength of the party lied in the votes it would get from various Igbo groups, town unions and their leaderships in Lagos.
He noted that indigenes of Anambra in Lagos State were made up of 177 towns’ unions; Imo State 210 towns’ unions; adding that the same was the case with Abia, Ebonyi and Enugu States.
Umeh-Nzekwe said the party would reach out to the groups during their sittings to tell them what was required of them ahead of the election.
He urged Lagos residents to join the party, saying that “it is a platform that will give them a chance to exercise their fundamental and democratic rights as citizens’’.
The chairman said that one did not need to be a card-carrying member to join the party.
He said that three aspirants had already shown interest to run for the governorship race under the platform of APGA.
The politician advised youths to see reason on why they should not waste their votes, saying that APGA would provide them free education from primary to university levels.
“Anybody who attends a university in Lagos State is entitled to security allowance every month before he gets a job,’’ Umeh-Nzekwe said. (NAN)
