This is a list of billionaires across the world who have kept a very
low and humble profile as against others who flaunt theirs on the
social media to taunt people.
Billionaires are often thought of as lavish spenders, splurging on
collections such as big houses, private resorts, clothes, shoes and
the most common of them all, cars.
Many think that if they look at the garage of the world's wealthiest,
they'd surely find a Ferrari, Bentley or a Rolls Royce in it. But of
course, there are still those billionaires who drive cars just like
the average people do.
In short, they choose to be humble and show the world that cars are
not the status symbol of being extremely rich. Believe it or not,
there are still quite a lot of humble billionaires out there. Here are
some billionaires, celebrities who actually drive inexpensive cars:
1. Ingvar Kamprad.
Ingvar Kamprad is the founder of Ikea and has a net worth of at least
$28 billion. Other billionaires may have chosen cheap cars and can be
deemed as humble, well- grounded people. But if being thrifty is
concerned, nothing beats Kampard as he chose to drive a humble Volvo
240, which only costs $1500. Aside from that, he prefers to take the
bus from time to time.
2. Mark Zuckerberg.
Mark Zuckerberg is one of the youngest billionaires in the planet. But
he definitely does not want to show the world all his wealth, as
seenin the car that he chooses to drive. In fact, he is the youngest
billionaire in the list who owns a very inexpensive car an Acura TSX
that costs only $30,000.
Zuckerberg prefers wearing jeans, shirts or hoodies, and sandals over
expensive suits and leather shoes. His wedding with Priscilla Chan was
held in his backyard. And the couple were seen eating at McDonalds
while they were on their honeymoon in Italy.
3. Dustin Moskovitz, Co-founder of Facebook.
The 30 year old internet entrepreneur co-founded Facebook along with
Mark Zuckerberg, Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum and Chris Hughes. He
left Facebook in 2008, but in March 2011, Forbes ranked Moskovitz as
one of the world's youngest self-made billionaires on the basis of his
2.34% share in Facebook. He has a net-worth of more than $6 billion
but drives a Volkswagen R32.
4. Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon.
The American business magnate and investor was born in New Mexico and
his humble beginnings is considered as one of the crucial reasons for
his massive success. His current net worth is estimated to be
somewhere near $30 billion but tech genius still drives a 1996 Honda
Accord. The same model today would cost below $4,000.
5. Travis Kalanick, Co-founder of taxi app service Uber (does not own
a car, he uses Uber cab).
The 38 year old serial entrepreneur dropped out of UCLA and co-founded
companies like Scour Inc. and peer-to-peer file-sharing platform Red
Swoosh before teaming up with Garrett Camp to start the famous ride-
sharing service Uber in 2009. The company was recently valued at $18.2
billion and though his share in Uber is not known, but he needs to own
5.49% of the company to join the billionaires' club. But despite his
billion plus net-worth, Travis uses his Uber's ride-on-demand service
to get around.
6. Jose Mujica, Uruguayan President (1978 Volkswagen Beetle).
Jose Mujica, president of Uruguay since 2010, is known to be the
world's poorest president. Jose donates more than 90% of his $12,000
per month salary to benefit the poor and to help small entrepreneurs.
If we need more of anything in this world, it would be more people
like this. This man doesn't put value on his appearance or clothes. He
is criticized for his posture and clothes, but Jose puts more value on
other things in life instead. The president and his wife work the land
themselves, growing flowers.
This austere lifestyle and the fact that Mujica donates about 90% of
his monthly salary, equivalent to $12,000 (£7,500), to charity has led
him to be labelled the poorest president in the world." I'm called the
poorest president', but I don't feel pooI, ive lived like this most of
my life," he says, sitting on an old chair in his garden, using a
cushion favoured by Manuela the dog. "I can live well with what I
have." His charitable donations which benefit poor people and small
entrepreneurs mean his salary is roughly in line with the average
Uruguayan income of $775 (£485) a month.
7. Leonardo DiCaprio. (Toyota Prius + Tesla Roadster, and Fisker Karma hybrid).
Leonardo DiCaprio net worth is estimated at $220 million. Hollywood
careers are built on smart choices and the biggest names have always
been the most diverse actors only. Over the past year Depp earned $50
million to DiCaprio's $77 million. Both actors have achieved wealth
and fame by making some unusual choices with their careers. Leonardo
DiCaprio net worth came from his film appearances as an actor as well
as from his commercial and TV appearances as a child. Leonardo
DiCaprio net worth began to amass after starring in the megahit
Titanic in 1997, he had since his pick of roles.
8. Warren Buffet.
The chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, Buffett's net worth may be
$46 billion dollars, but he still lives in his 50-year old home he
paid $31,500 for in Omaha, Nebraska. Known as one of the wealthiest
individuals in the world and possibly the most successful investor of
the 20thcentury, he has managed to stay grounded and humble. He has
made giving an art form and recently donated a great portion of his
wealth to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to be used for
philanthropic purposes.
9. Jim C. Walton, WalMart heir and Chair of Arvest Bank.
Net worth: $34.7 billion.
Jim C. Walton is the youngest son of Walmart founder Sam Walton, who
was also well-known as a penny pincher. Walton owns a great deal of
stock in Walmart and runs Arvest Bank, which is a personal wealth
management company managed by his family. His business takes place not
in a fancy high rise, but in a forgettable brick building. He and his
wife still live in Arkansas, where he was born.
Many of the world's wealthiest businessmen will tell you that having a
large fortune allows you the freedom to do what you want, when you
want, and not have to answer to anyone. Most enjoy lavish lifestyles,
soaking up the spotlight and wasting their millions on ridiculously
extravagant luxuries. But these humble and frugal CEOs enjoy a
different lifestyle, and each can attest that spending their fortunes
on causes that improve our world can be a much more satisfying
experience that lasts.
10. Carlos Slim Helu:
Estimated Net worth: $70 Billion
He's up there with Bill Gates and Warren Buffett competing for the
title of richest man in the world but Slim is by no means an excessive
spender. The mobile phone magnate owns a 6-bedroom home, and has done
for the past three decades; he also drives himself to work everyday.
11.Azim Premji:
Estimated Net Worth: $19:1 Billion
One of the richest men in India, the chairmanof Wipro, he's known for
his focused concernwith the company's resources. That extends to
monitoring toilet-paper and switching off lights when leaving an
office; apparently he still takes rickshaws to and from the airport.
