Gubernatorial and state legislature elections across the country have
witnessed shocking results as some prominent politicians, who had
appeared larger than life before the polls, failed to win their
polling units.
Some other notable politicians, however, lived up to expectation as
they won in their poling units.
In Lagos, the national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola
Tinubu, who voted on Sunday Adigun Street, Alausa, led his party to
victory with 230 votes to Peoples Democratic Party's 62.
Governor of the state, Babatunde Fashola, who voted in Ward G3, Unit
02, State Senior Grammar School, Itolo, Surulere, secured 270 votes
for the APC just as the PDP scored 132 votes.
The APC also won the House of Assembly election in the ward as it got
306 votes while the PDP got 98 votes.
Popular actor, Desmond Elliot, won election into the state House of
Assembly to represent Surulere but the result of the election has yet
to be released officially.
The candidate of the APC in Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, scored 133
votes in his ward 03 in Epe to beat the PDP which got 57 votes.
Also in Lagos, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Musiliu
Obanikoro, won in his Ikoyi Ward 09, Unit 012 as the PDP coasted home
with 66 votes to beat the APC which got 59 votes. In the House of
Assembly election in the unit, the PDP scored 60 votes to beat the APC
which scored 33 votes.
But the leader of the PDP in Lagos State, Bode George, lost in his
Evans Square unit 01 on Lagos Island. The APC polled 137 votes while
the PDP polled 87 votes.
Lagos PDP governorship candidate, Jimi Agbaje, lost in his Ward 3,
Unit 9 of Apapa, where the APC scored 124 votes while the PDP scored
88 in the House of Assembly election but his party drew with the APC
in the governorship election as both parties polled 87 votes each.
In Ogun State, former President Olusegun Obasanjo won in his polling
station, Unit 22, Ward 11, which is located in Olusomi Compound of
Totoro-Soroki, Abeokuta-North Local Government.
In the governorship election in the ward, the APC defeated the PDP,
the Social Democratic Party and the Unity Party of Nigeria by polling
58 votes against PDP's 4, UPN's 8 and SDP's 11.
In the House of Assembly election in the ward, the APC got 85 votes,
the PDP got 8 votes while the SDP polled 14 votes.
A former Governor of Ogun State, Chief Olusegun Osoba, lost in his
unit 23, ward 13, Ago Oba polling centre in Abeokuta-South Local
Government Area.
In the governorship election, the APC scored 169 to beat Osoba's SDP,
which got 36 votes while the PDP got 24 votes.
It was a freefall for Osoba's party in the House of Assembly election
as the SDP got 28 votes while the PDP got 37 votes and the APC amassed
146 votes.
But another former governor of the state, Gbenga Daniel, won in his
Olukotun-Isote Ward 12, polling unit 7 of Sagamu Local Government
Area, where the PDP scored 167 votes and the APC got 108 votes in the
governorship election.
Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, won in Ajura ward 4, unit 3 in
Obafemi Owode Local Government Area as the APC got 212 votes, PDP
scored 30 vote and SDP received 2 votes in the governorship election.
In the House of Assembly election in the unit, Amosun's APC got 192
votes, beating the PDP to 30 votes and SDP to 1 vote.
The result of the House of Assembly election declared for the ward
showed that Daniel's party, the PDP, got 153 votes while the APC got
103.
Ogun State PDP governorship candidate, Gboyega Isiaka, in Imeko ward,
unit 6, scored 213 votes, APC got 35 votes and the SDP got 11 in the
governorship election. In the House of Assembly election in Imeko
ward, the PDP got 192 votes, APC got 52 votes while the SDP got 10
votes.
Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, swept the stakes in his Unit 1,
Ward 8 of Oke-Isa, in Ilesa-East LGA, where his party, the APC,
defeated the PDP by 173 votes to 1.
Also in Osun, the senator-elect for Osun-West senatorial district,
Isiaka Adeleke, of the APC delivered his ward 02, unit 09 of
Ede-North, where the APC got 88 to PDP's 63.
PDP chieftain and former Chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriation,
Iyiola Omisore, won in his unit 04, ward 01 located in Ife-Central
Local Government, where the PDP got 147 votes to APC's 101.
In Oyo State, incumbent Governor Abiola Ajimobi and the candidate of
the APC won in his ward 11, unit 20 located at Oluyole Estate
Extension, where the APC polled 116; PDP got 9; Accord Party got 40
with the SDP getting 9 and the Labour Party scoring 14.
Also, in Oyo State, former governor Adebayo Alao-Akala's LP got 325
votes and the APC scored 26; PDP scored 3 and Accord scored 9 in
Ogbomoso North-East Local Government Area of Saraa Ward 10.
The Oyo governorship candidate of the PDP, Teslim Folarin, lost in his
Ona Ara ward 05 but the full details of the results were not
officially available as of the time of filing this report.
In Ward 11, Unit 16 of Ibadan-North Local Government, the candidate of
the SDP, Seyi Makinde, received 65 votes, AP scored 47 and APC got 44.
Also, the governorship candidate of Accord Party in Oyo State, Rashidi
Ladoja, who voted in Bodija Ward 10, Unit 11, scored 185 votes to
APC's 64.
The governorship candidate of the PDP in Borno State, Alhaji Gambo
Lawan, got 9 votes to APC's 118 votes in his ward.
In Kwara, Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of the APC, who voted in Adebiopen
polling unit 008, Share ward 1, Ifelodun LGA, garnered 454 votes while
the PDP got 8 votes in the governorship election.
In the House of Assembly election of the same unit and ward, the APC
got 437 votes and the PDP got 19 votes.
In Adamawa, the governorship candidate of the APC, Nuhu Ribadu, polled
312 votes while the PDP scored 112 votes in Ribadu's polling unit.
In Ondo, Governor Olusegun Mimiko, who voted in Unit 3, Ward 7,
Ondo-West LGA, got 223 votes for the PDP while the APC scored 32 votes
in the governorship election.
His deputy, Ali Olanusi, who defected to the APC recently, mustered
217 votes for his party just as the PDP got 5 votes in Olanusi's ward
11, unit 8 of Akoko South-West LGA.
