Ex-Kwara LG chairman slumps, dies
A former Chairman of Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State,
Alhaji Kareem Adewumi, slumped on Wednesday and died shortly after.
He was said to have slumped at his residence along the Ilofa-Omu-Aran road.
Our correspondent gathered that he was rushed to Omu-Aran General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
Adewumi hailed from Ile-Ire in Omu-Aran and was the chairman of the council between 2003 and 2006.
His uncle, Mr. Dayo Adewumi, described his cousin’s death as shocking.
According to him, Adewumi appeared to be well and did not show any sign of ill-health before his death.
He said, “This is shocking and unbelievable. We were together since
morning and he even drove his wife to the shop without showing any sign
of imminent death.
“We only noticed that he was struggling to breath
and later slumped and we immediately rushed him to the hospital where
he was pronounced dead.”
The current chairman of Irepodun Local
Government Council, Alhaji Luqman Owolewa, said Adewumi’s death was a
great and irreparable loss to the people of the LG and the state at
large.
He said, “We are all living witnesses to the numerous
achievement his tenure recorded as the chairman of this council and
those memories will continue to linger in the minds of the people for a
long time,”
According to the Olomu of Omu-Aran, Oba Charles Ibitoye, Adewumi’s demise is a monumental loss to the people of the community.
