Flood sacks Edo residents....SEE PHOTO

Firstclass newsline gathered that some residents of Udaba, Anegbette
and Oghomere communities in Etsako Central Local Government Area of
Edo State are currently counting their losses, as no fewer than 40
houses in the communities have been submerged by flood.
Firstclass newsline gathered that the flood, which occurred on Friday
as a result of the overflowing River Niger, also destroyed property
worth millions of naira.
Firstclass newsline learnt that some of the affected residents had
started relocating to nearby communities around Fugar and Auchi in
Etsako Central and West local government areas, respectively.
A source in one of the affected communities said many of the villagers
harvested their crops prematurely, fearing the incessant rainfalls
could damage their crops.
The village head of Udaba, Chief David Inetakpe, said most victims had
no temporary place of shelter as the resettlement camp being
constructed by the Federal Government had yet to be completed.
"Even most painful is that we have not heard from the government since
this problem started on Friday. We need help and there is no point
pretending about it. We need government to come to our aid," Inetakpe
said.
Efforts made by a source to reach the State Emergency Management
Authority to speak on the matter were unsuccessful.
There had been calls for rural residents in coastal areas to relocate
to highlands.
