OMG! Military seizes 2,000 cartons of fish from Boko Haram…

Firstclass newsline gathered that the military yesterday said it had
seized over 2,000 cartons of smoked fish and many bags of dried meat
worth about N50 million from the dreaded Boko Haram terrorists.
The Deputy Director Army Public Relations and spokesman, 7 Division
Nigerian Army, Maiduguri, Colonel Tukur Gusau told journalists that
the food were confiscated from different communities in troubled Borno
State.
Gusau told journalists during the burning of the confiscated
materials: "The 7 Division Nigerian Army had seized several cartons of
dried fish from suspected Boko Haram terrorists in various locations
in Borno State. The cartons of dried fish are believed to have been
stolen from innocent fishermen and businessmen by the terrorists who
later sell them at ridiculous mount to finance their activities."
Gusau said the ongoing military operations in the North-east had
crippled the activities of Boko Haram, adding that the operation had
compelled the terrorists to resort to using donkeys and other unusual
tactics to attack some remote communities.
Gusau called for useful information from members of the public that
could assist in ending insurgency in the country.
"By burning of this fish, we're sending strong message to the
terrorists to change their terror act because an end is at sight.
We're determined with the support of patriotic Nigerians to end Boko
Haram and other terror acts in the country," he added.
Group petitions UN on transfer of Boko Haram suspects…
Also yesterday, a civil society group, Leadership and Accountability
Initiative of Nigeria announced that it had petitioned the United
Nations (UN), African Union (AU), and the International Criminal Court
(ICC) on "the present and imminent danger and threat to life and
property" by the transfer of suspected terrorists to South Eastern
part of the country.
The group in the petition signed by the Executive Coordinator, Shield
Nwazuruahu and Secretary, Greenwill Kanu said that the action of the
Federal Government of Nigeria by the transfer of Boko Haram prisoners
to Ekwuluobia Prison in Anambra State, "bears on the peace and
security of Anambra State in particular and Nigeria in general".
Nwazuruahu noted that Boko Haram is reputed to be islamic
fundamentalists and amongst other things, vehemently opposed to the
Christianity and western developmental ideals.
He wondered why the federal government armed with these facts, could
transfer about 88 Boko Haram suspects to Ekwuluobia Prison.
The group expressed fears that this act of transferring and keeping
these elements in a state and community that is predominantly
Christian and in the South East of Nigeria may attract other Boko
Haram elements to that part of Nigeria in a most likely attempt to
free their detained members.
It noted that evidences abound of such actions and the damage they
will leave behind in any attempt to free their comrades from Ekwulobia
Prison will make their wickedness and gruesomeness in the North
Eastern part of Nigeria look like child's play.
Part of the statement reads: "The dangers of the actions of the
President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by ordering the transfer
and the continuous detention of Boko Haram members in Ekwulobia Prison
are that the insurgency may now fester to another region of the
country, as the insurgents may begin to activate their cells (if any)
in the South East region in other to free their detained members. Our
fears and concerns are founded on the undisputed fact that this
dreaded Boko Haram group is attracted to any place or facility where
their members are being detained.
"It is on record and to mention but a few of such attraction of this
dreaded group. On 7th September, 2010, this group launched an attack
on a prison facility in Bauchi State (North-east Nigeria), where they
freed 150 of their members and another 571 other inmates escaped from
that prison."
"On 15th February, 2012, in Kogi State, (North-central Nigeria) this
same group attacked the Koton Karfe Prison and freed 199 inmates with
their members in detention.
"In 2013, this same group in Potiskum, Yobe State attacked a prison
with bombs, dynamites and a suicide bomber, wherein they freed all
their members and 132 other inmates in a prison heavily guarded by the
Army, Police and prison wardens. Again, on 7th of May, 2013, this same
group launched coordinated attacks on Police, Army and Prison
formations in Bama Town, Borno State (North-east Nigeria), wherein 55
persons died including 22 police men, 3 soldiers and 105 of their
members were released."
According to the group, dangers of this particular action/order of
Buhari is that there are possibilities for these Boko Haram inmates
to, while in detention in Ekwulobia Prison, recruit fellow inmates who
are aggrieved with the government or the system, the gullible ones and
the ones that would see the offer to be recruited as a Boko Haram
member as a worthy enterprise.
The concerned group noted that the people of the South-east of Nigeria
are very peace loving people and that the region has been calm and
devoid of terrorism.
"In as much as we acknowledge the rights of the Federal Government of
Nigeria and will not deny her the right to make use of her facility in
the South-east or anywhere in Nigeria, we wish to most respectfully
put the world on notice as to our fears on the security and well-being
of the good People of Ekwulobia in Anambra State and South-east
Nigeria in general.
