Assasins murders Enugu Couple in their sleep

Firstclass newsline learnt that a couple, Mr. Marcel Ossai Aba and his
wife Jacinta, were at the weekend gruesomely murdered in their sleep
at Amaja in Enugu Ezike community of Igboeze North Local Government
Area of Enugu State by unknown gunmen.
Aba was sleeping with his wife and three children when some unknown
persons woke him up and slashed his head with a cutlass.
The assailants later went into his wife's room and removed her
one-year-old daughter who she was breastfeeding before severing her
head.
The assailants left the scene of crime without removing any material
or property.
Reacting to the resurgence of crimes especially banditry, robberies
and kidnapping in the state, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi yesterday asked
security operatives in the state to rise to the occasion by arresting
the increasing spate of insecurity.
Speaking shortly after swearing in four new members of the State
Security Council, Ugwuanyi charged the council to address without
delay the resurgence of violent crimes in the state.
The new members of the council are Col. Osa Omoregbe, the Garrison
Commander 82 Division Nigerian Army; Air Commodore Emmanuel Festus
Golit, Commander 337 Base Services Group, Nigerian Airforce, Enugu;
Mr. Abdul Malik, Director of Security, State
Security Services; and Mr. Lar Stephen Zwali, State Commander, Nigeria
Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
The governor, who underscored the need to beef up security in the
state, noted that recent media reports had shown that the incidence of
violent crimes was on the rise in both the rural and urban areas of
the state.
"I however hasten to say that as much as the state's rating in the
area of security remains enviably and comparatively high, I am certain
that from recent media reports you would have observed that the
incidence of such violent crimes like kidnapping, ritual killings,
cultism and armed robbery have been on the increase in both the rural
and urban areas of the state," he said.
Ugwuanyi informed the council that he summoned its meeting to discuss
the undesirable development with a view to coming up with a plan of
action and identifying the necessary measures that would help address
rising incidents of crime promptly, effectively and satisfactorily.
The governor assured the security agents of the state of his
government's commitment to provide the necessary assistance and
support that may be required in the discharge of their duties.
He commended the Nigerian Armed Forces for the success they have
continued to record in their determined efforts to end the insurgency
in the North-east and generally making Nigeria a safe place for all to
live.
