three children and the mother killed in Bayelsa auto accidents

Three children and their mother have been killed in two separate
ghastly road accidents in Bayelsa State.
Firstclass newsline learnt that the incidents happened in the Yenagoa
and Sagbama local government areas on Saturday.
Firstclass newsline learnt that the Sagbama incident, which occurred
at Adagbabiri junction on the East-West Road section of the state,
claimed the lives of a woman and three children.
The Highlander driver, identified as Meeting Mayor, was said to have
lost control of the vehicle and rammed into traders at the Adagbabiri
junction.
An eyewitness, who identified himself simply as Kelvin, said the
deceased woman was having lunch with her children when the vehicle
crashed into their shed and crushed them.
"The woman was in the shed with her four children. Unfortunately, the
woman and the three children have been confirmed dead. One child
survived," he said.
The eyewitness identified the deceased mother as Ruth and gave the
names of the children as Favour (9), Godsgift (5) and Oghenerho (1).
He said the only survivor, identified as T-Girl, was receiving
treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
In theYenagoa incident, a two-year-old girl, Kelechi Favour, was
reportedly crushed to death on Osiri Road.
The eyewitness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Favour was
hit by a council driver.
The accident, according to the eyewitness, provoked anger among
residents of Osiri and could have resulted in the burning of the Prado
jeep, said to be the official vehicle of the council chairman.
Firstclass newsline learnt that although the deceased reportedly ran
into the road, the driver was also accused of reckless driving by the
residents.
Firstclass newsline also learnt that the accident occured when the LG
boss went on a private visit to the Osiri area.
An eyewitness said, "The driver, while going back to pick his
principal, drove in a very ruthless and reckless manner and as such
could lost the control the vehicle when the child suddenly ran into
his path."
It was learnt that some of the family members of the victim, however,
accused the police of trying to manipulated the report on the
incident.
The spokesman for the state police command, Mr. Asinim Butswat, said
the report available to him did not mention that the council driver
was involved in the incident.
Butswat said the report from the Ekeki Divisional headquarters of the
Police showed that "it was a fatal motor and pedestrian accident."
He said, "On July 31 at about 4pm along the Mbiama/Yenagoa Road by
Osiri Junction, a black Prado jeep with unknown registration number
knocked down one Kelechi Favour, two years and a female. The victim
said to be rushed to a nearby hospital, but gave up the ghost a few
minutes later."
Speaking on the Sagbama incident, Butswat said the Highlander with
registration number,YEN 726 RG, was coming from the Patani end of the
East-West Road when the incident occurred.
"The vehicle crashed into shops," the police spokesman said.
