Firstclass newsline learnt that group of armed robbers, who mostly
deals in raping and killing their robbed prey were on Thursday caught
and taken into police custody by the Oyo State Police Command in
Ogbomoso after they were tracked through a phone they took from one of
their robbed victims.
The commissioner of Police in the state, Mohammed Katsina, said while
parading the armed robbers that one of them died during a gun battle
with the police while another was severely wounded.
Before their arrest, the suspects were said to be residing in
different cities and only had a gathering when they planned to go for
operations. The commissioner of police said investigation led his men
to Ijebu-Ode, Ibadan, Ogbomoso and Oyo where the robbers were
arrested.
Mohammed explained that the gang had been ta terror in Oyo and
Ogbomoso for a long time. On a particular event, they stormed,robbed
everyone one in the house and raped two ladies.It was futher learnt
that while fleeing with their spoils after an operation on May, 28,
2015, they killed a passer-by. The gunshot got the attention of my men
and they went after them with no waste of time .Another investigation
led us to Ijebu-Ode where the head of the gang was apprehended.
It was learnt that the gang leade wife was with the mobile phone that
led us to him. He cooperated with us and led us to other gang
members.it was further leant that in their hide out in Ogbomoso, they
opened fire on the police, leading to a gun battle. After the gun
duel, two of the suspects were severely wounded and one was not lucky
enough who died in the hospital. We must thank the public for their
cooperation and appeal to them to pass information when they notice
strange movement of bad people in their vicinity.
A famous member of the gang, Fatai Balogun(28), who was tracked to
Ijebu-Ode, alleged that the member that was shot during the gun duel
with the police raped and murdered their victims.
The suspect said, "I reside in Ibiade in Ijebu Waterside and I was
into fairly used imported clothes in Ijebu-Ode before I I decided to
join the robbery gang about a year ago. I was brought into the gang by
one Jankaa who was shot in an operation in Mile 12 area of Lagos. I
have taken in seven robbery operations in Ogbomoso and Oyo town.
"I have never raped any of our female victims. A member of our gang,
Segun, was used to raping of our victims. He was the one that was
shot when police came to arrest us.The time we robbed a Ghanaian
sometimes ago, we also shot his wife. Segun said that the woman knew
his identity so he killed her."
The suspected further said that the gang started by stealing petty
valuables before stealing a gun with which they began armed robbery
operation, raping and killing.
"We began by stealing mobile telephones and small valuables after
cutting window nets to gain access. But one day, we were coming from
an operation when we saw a night guard sleeping. We stole his double
barrel gun.
"The last operation was done in Oyo where we stole money, mobile
telephones and computers in a house. The phone was used to traced us.
I was still in Ijebu when the police came to my residence, I noticed
there was no way out so I decided to cooperate with them.
A victim of the gang, who was raped in their last operation, said
they entered through the window and forcibly took money from her
husband who is an automobile seller.
After taken money from my husband the came to my room and took money
from me after beating me. One of them also raped me. My husband
alerted the police but they managed to flee.
