Man steals N145,000 cloths, says it’s for Sallah

Firstclass newsline learnt that the Nasarawa State Command of the
Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps on Wednesday apprehended a
20-year- old native of Assakio in the Lafia East Development Area for
allegedly stealing cloths estimated at N145, 000 to celebrate Sallah.
The state NSCDC Public Relations Officer, Mr. Aso Okereke, said the
suspect, Mr. Musa Halidu, was arrested near Wazeri Bakery in the Agwan
Tiv area on July 3, 2015, following a complaint from a trader, Mrs.
Nenpin Simon.
The trader told firstclass newsline that the suspect came to her shop
along with one Ramatu Abdullahi, 14, on July 2, to buy some cloths for
the Sallah celebration.
She said, "After a successful negotiation, the suspect selected
several cloths, worth N145, 500, and pleaded with me to allow him to
show his people and seek their opinion on the choices made before
coming back to pay for the cloths."
She told a source that, Halidu who had left his companion, Abdullahi,
behind with her, failed to return with the cloths, or the money for
them as earlier agreed.
She added that after waiting for a long time, she reported the man to
the NSCDC, adding that operatives of the corps arrested Abdullahi, who
later assisted the NSCDC in the arrest of the suspect on July 3, 2015.
In an interview at the NSCDC headquarters, the suspect said the cloths
were actually meant for the forthcoming Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
He added that the deed was perfected with other persons, who he said
had fled after he was arrested.
The NSCDC PRO said the suspect would be made to face the wrath of the law.
He warned members of the public to be wary of those who would use
tricks to defraud them of their wares and products on the pretext that
they would pay afterwards.
