A muslim faithful jailed five months for stealing in mosque

Firstclass newsline learnt that an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates' Court,
Ibadan, Oyo State, on Tuesday sentenced one Akeem Adeyemi, 31, to five
months' imprisonment for stealing inside a mosque during prayers to
end the day's Ramadan fast.
The News Agency of Nigeriareports that Adeyemi, whose address is
unknown, had on Monday pleaded guilty to two counts of felony and
stealing inside a place of worship.
The magistrate, Mrs. A.F. Richards, sentenced the convict to two
months for committing felony and another three months for stealing.
Richards said that the two sentences were to run concurrently,
starting from the day the convict was first arraigned before the
court.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Corporal Oluseye Oyebanji, had told the court
that Adeyemi, on June 26, 2015, stole N7,000 from one Jubril Awalu.
Oyebanji said Adeyemi entered the Bodija Housing Central Mosque,
Ibadan with other worshipers, and managed to remove the money from
Awalu's pocket.
He said the offences were contrary to sections 390 (9) and 415 of the
Criminal Code, Caps 38. Vol 11, Law of Oyo State, 2000.
