Touts arrested over death of three persons

Firstclass newsline gathered that the police in Lagos have arrested
two gang leaders, who allegedly instigated violence in Orisumbare and
Ojora communities in the Ijora area of Lagos during which three
persons were killed.
Firstclass newsline learnt that a protracted crisis between cult gangs
in the two areas, deepened on Sunday, during a midnight party
reportedly held in the Ojora area.
Firstclass newsline learnt that at about 3am on Sunday, a resident of
Orisumbare, Saheed Jimoh, who attended the party in Ojora, was
attacked and hacked to death by hoodlums.
In a reprisal, a gang from Orisumbare, who learnt of Jimoh's death,
reportedly went to Ojora the same day and hacked another resident,
Hammed Atobatele, to death.
It was learnt that the thugs, who vandalised vehicles in the area,
also attacked the residents.
Soldiers attached to the OP MESA were reportedly invited to Ojora and
they were said to have dispersed the hoodlums.
Firstclass newsline learnt that as the thugs fled, another resident,
Gafar, who tried to escape through a swamp, drowned and died.
The police on Tuesday arrested two gang leaders in the area.
It was learnt that the gang leaders, whose names were not disclosed as
investigations were ongoing, were being quizzed at the Department of
Criminal Investigations, Yaba.
When a source got to the area, a resident, who gave his name only as
Ahmed, said Jimoh's corpse was taken away by his parents for burial on
the same day.
He said, "Saheed (Jimoh) had gone with his friends to Ojora for a
night party on Saturday. Before now, there had been crises between
Orisumbare and Ojora. At about 3am, while he went to ease himself,
some hoodlums swooped on him and stabbed him to death.
"Immediately Orisumbare hoodlums learnt of the incident, they went to
a man's house and hacked him to death."
The secretary of the Apapa Iganmu Community Development Committee,
Kehinde Omonisi, told our correspondent that while he tried to
mediate, he was rebuffed.
He said, "When I got the information, I immediately alerted the
police. There was a time we took some of them to an Ogun shrine where
they vowed not to unleash mayhem in the area again. But it was a lie.
"When I tried to mediate on Sunday, one of their gang leaders, Gani
Olore, attacked me. I was rushed to a hospital. We want all the
hoodlums out of our area. There is no genuine reason for their clashes
other than supremacy reason."
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, said, "One
person was killed by some rival area boys in front of his house. This
is as a result of a protracted animosity between the two gangs. They
also damaged vehicles parked on the street.
"A team of policemen, led by the Ijora DPO, went to the scene and the
corpse was recovered. Some community leaders are helping the police to
track down the perpetrators, and the area is being closely monitored."
