Man arrested for raping 2 daughters and nieces

Firstclass newsline learnt that a 60-year-old herbalist, Tajudeen
Awoniyi, has been arrested in the Akinyele area of Ibadan by the Oyo
State Police Command for raping his two teenage daughters and two
other minors who are his nieces.
The Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Katsina, said Awoniyi was
arrested after raping his nieces, who passed the night in his
apartment.
It was alleged that Awoniyi gave traditional black soap to the teenage
girls around 1am with which the girls bathe on the day the crime was
committed.
He thereafter slept with each of them separately. The mother, Jelilat
Olayiwola, who had travelled to Lagos on the day the crime was
committed, called the police after learning what happened.
One of the suspect's daughters confirmed that her father actually
raped the two girls.
She added that her father had developed the habit of raping her and
her sister after getting drunk.
She said they could not raise the alarm because he threatened to
punish them. She also said that their mother left them when they were
very young.
"We came home with … (the victims) but when it was too late, they
decided to sleep in our house. My father later gave them black soap
and he called them into his shrine one-by-one and raped them. Each
time he was drunk, he would rape me and my sister in the house. He had
done it to me three times. I cried but I could not tell anyone," she
said.
The police said doctor's report indicated that the girls had been
infected with sexually-transmitted disease.
Awoniyi said he gave the girls the soap, but did not rape them and had
never raped his daughters.
He said he was being framed up by his brother because of a family dispute.
