Height of Wickedness:Woman bathes house-girl with mixture of ground pepper and hot water

Firstclass newsline learnt that human rights group, Campaign for
Democracy, CD, yesterday, condemned the action of a woman, who
allegedly bathed her house-girl with ground pepper mixed with hot
water at Nkutanku area of East Niger layout, Onitsha, Anambra State.
According to CD, the housewife, whose name is simply given as Mrs.
Ogochukwu, now in the police custody at Fegge police station, had
allegedly bathed the house-girl, whose name was also given as Miss
Igweze Ekwutosi, which caused her severe burns in her private part.
A source said trouble started for the 13-year-old Ekwutosi when she
forgot her bag in school but lied to her madam that it was seized by
her class teacher.
The source stated that as she was crying and wailing in pain,
sympathizers rushed in and asked the woman the reason for the injury
meted out on the girl.
It was learnt that in her defence, the madam said the maid, instead
of admitting that she could not return with her school bag for reason
best known to her, accused her teacher of seizing it, adding that
often times, she stole her money.
As her reasons were not enough to have led to inflicting such grievous
injury on her, the sympathizers quickly invited the Police at Fegge,
who arrested and whisked her away to the station for proper
interrogation.
At the station, the victim, who is a cousin to the woman's husband,
revealed that her madam always beat her up, adding that in the morning
of the fateful day, she used ground pepper mixed with hot water on her
which caused burns in her private part.
Condemning the act at the Fegge police station, chairman of CD,
Vincent Ezemekwe, described it as wickedness, adding that the woman
must be made to face the wrath of the law.
The Divisional Police Officer, DPO at Fegge, Rabiu Garba, was not on
seat to confirm the incident, but a superior police officer, who
pleaded anonymity, said investigations were in progress.
