Another tanker accident leaves special marshal boss, nine others dead...SEE PHOTO

Firstclass newsline gathered that a petrol tanker lost control on
Wednesday in Ondo State and killed about 10 persons, incuding the
Coordinator of the Federal Road Safety Corps Special Marshal in Osun
State, Chief Ojo Adewale.
Scores were also said to be injured in the incident.
An eyewitness said the tanker belonging to Total Petroleum Company was
coming from the Ilesa end of the Akure-Ilesa Road when the incident
occured.
It was learnt that the petrol tanker had a brake failure a few meters
to the Owena Market.
It was learnt that the driver struggled in vain to control the
vehicle, but eventually rammed it into the market.
Many of victims of the accident were said to be traders, artisans and drivers.
It was gathered that Adewale was in company with his wife and a child.
He was said to be travelling from Owo, Ondo State to Ife, Osun State,
where he resided when the accident occurred.
Firstclass newsline learnt that the special marshal boss had parked
his car by the roadside at Owena Market in Osun State to buy a few
things from the market.
It was learnt that the wife and his child were among the survivors.
The victims of the accident were rushed to a hospital in Akure, where
some of them were confirmed dead.
Those who sustained injuries were said to be receiving medical
treatment at the same hospital.
Adewale was an anchor of a popular weekly road safety programme on the
Osun State Broadcasting Corporation and was always at the forefront of
road safety awareness.
The Head of Operation of the FRSC, Ondo State, Mr. Jones Malomo,
confirmed the accident.
The Sector Commander of the FRSC in Osun State, Mr. Mohammed Husaini,
when contacted, also confirmed the accident on the telephone.
The sector commander said, "I was told that Adewale stopped at Owena
Market to buy some tubers of yam and a petrol tanker lost control and
ran over his car and some people.
"It is unfortunate that he died just like that.
"His wife and son suffered injuries and had been taken to a hospital
for treatment."
Meanwhile, the sector commander advised motorists to abide by traffic rules.
He said this during the decoration of 13 officers of the command in Osogbo.
Hussein urged the officers to promote the image of the corps.
The Head of Operation, Mr. Bola Adewunmi urged the officers to see
their promotion as a call to work harder.
