Five persons die as church building collapses in Enugu

Firstclass newsline gathered that more than five persons lost their lives after
a church building collapsed in Enugu State on Saturday.
The building ─ the Cathedral of St. Anthony Catholic Church ─ in
Oduma, Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State, collapsed during a
rehearsal for the Sunday service.
Eyewitnesses told firstclass newsline that the priest of the church,
Rev. Fr. Nonso Eze, was conducting rehearsals ahead of the Sunday Mass
with some members of the church when a section of the alter collapsed.
More than five persons were said to have died instantly, while one
worshiper sustained an ankle fracture.
It was learnt that the incident occurred at about 9pm after a downpour.
Other eyewitnesses, however, said the worshipers were in a prayer
meeting when the incident occurred.
The spokesman for the Enugu State Police Command, Ebere Amaraizu, said
the incident was being investigated.
Proper investigation has commenced into the incident just as the
bodies of the deceased persons have been deposited at Jideofor
Hospital Mortuary, Awgu," Amaraizu said.
