No fewer than 17 people died on Monday in a road crash at Dogon-Kukah village of Damagum Local Government Area of Yobe State, Mallam Isa Yusuf told journalists.
Yusuf, who is the Head of the accident and emergency unit of the Damagum General Hospital, told journalists on the telephone that 17 corpses were brought to the hospital and 50 others were currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
He said in line the Yobe State Government’s policies, those on admission would be treated free for 48 hours, pointing out that those on admission were in stable condition.

An eyewitness, Mallam Isa Yahaya, told journalists that the accident involved a luxurious bus and a trailer coming from opposite direction, but collided.
He said the passenger bus had a burst tyre on motion, before it rammed into the oncoming truck.
Another resident that witnessed the accident said Dogon Kukah residents assisted in the rescue before the arrival of soldiers, who were at a checkpoint in Dogon Kukah village.
The corpse of the 17 people had been deposited at the Damagum General Hospital.
