One of the leaders of the Igbo community in Jos, Chief Samuel Achi,
has advised Igbo in Jos not to panic over their safety during and
after the 2015 general elections.
Achi advised all Igbo resident in Plateau State to remain in their
location and exercise their franchise and avoid the greater mistake of
running away and putting their lives at risk on the roads.

Achi, who addressed newsmen in Jos on Sunday, said that the community
had received adequate assurances from the police and other security
agencies in the state to safeguard their lives and property.
He said, "It makes no sense leaving where you have been living for
many years to your village where you go once in a while. It is better
you stay and defend your investments. Those who are encouraging you to
run away only have eyes on your investments.
"We should learn a lesson from what happened in 1993 during the
annulment of the Moshood Abiola election when many people lost their
lives in avoidable road accidents."
Meanwhile, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party
in Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, has declared that there are no
non-indigenes in the state.
Ugwuanyi, who spoke at a campaign rally in the Enugu North Local
Government Area, said if elected, he would ensure that Enugu State
would truly be home for all Nigerians.
"There is nothing like non-indigenes in Enugu State – all the Yoruba
here are from Enugu, all the Hausa here are from Enugu. Enugu is home
for all," he said.
The PDP and the All Progressives Congress in the state are focusing
their campaigns on the large population of non-indigenes in Enugu,
ahead of the governorship poll, which has been postponed to April 11.
The candidate of the APC in the state, Okey Ezea, had earlier promised
to end all forms of discrimination against non-indigenes in the state
if elected governor.
