Mammoth crowds welcome Buhari in Kogi, Benue

A Huge crowds of All Progressive Congress ( APC) supporters received the presidential candidate of the party, Gen. Muhammad Buhari, at different campaign rallies in Makurdi and Lokoja, the capital cities of Benue and Kogi states, yesterday.
In Makurdi, the presidential candidate was almost moved to tears by the huge show of solidarity from an excited crowd.
From the Makurdi Airport to IBB Square where the rally was held, youths, women, children and the aged lined up the streets to catch a glimpse of him.
It took almost 40 minutes for his convoy to wage through the sea of heads to address the supporters.
Addressing the rally, Gen. Buhari said he would encourage commercial agriculture which would in turn create employment as Benue is known as the food basket of the nation.
The former head of state, who described Benue State as the home of APC, urged the supporters to close ranks and send the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) away from Government House Makurdi.
Senate Minority Leader, Dr. George Akume, described Gen. Buhari as a credible man who is committed to the welfare of Nigerians, saying the people of Benue would vote massively for APC.
Akume said that APC would send PDP packing, urging the people not to lose hope but go all out and canvass for support ahead of next month’s election .
National Chairman of APC, Chief John Oyegun, said seeing the crowd at the rally, change had come to Benue State and it was just a matter of time that PDP would become history.
The high point of the rally was the presentation of the party’s flag to the APC governorship candidate in the state, Chief Samuel Ortom.
Also addressing a huge crowd in Lokoja, the presidential candidate of APC said his administration would revive the ailing Ajaokuta Steel Company and strengthen the nation’s economy, if given the mandate.
He said if Ajaokuta SteelCompany is revived and made to function, it is capable of generating enough employment for the teeming youths and also generate revenue for the nation.
He said: “APC is the only party that can guarantee the security of the nation effectively. Youth employment and health would be our priorities.
“We will empower financial institutions to be able to give loans to individuals and organisations so as to be able to create employment.
“We will invest in education and security.”
Buhari urged the electorate to get their permanent voters’ cards and make sure that their votes count during the forthcoming election, “ecause we have no other country than Nigeria.”
He assured that if given the mandate he would change the nation’s economy for the better.
