South Africa will be tough, Emenike warns
Super Eagles forward, Emmanuel Emenike, has said Bafana Bafana will be
playing for pride when the two sides meet at the Akwa Ibom International
Stadium in a 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Wednesday.
Group A leaders, South Africa, have qualified for the competition with
11 points having won three of the five matches they have played in the
qualifiers while playing draws in the other two.
The Eagles, who are second in the table with seven points, need a win
in the match to stand a chance of progressing to Equatorial Guinea for
their title defence. But the South Africans have yet to beat Nigeria in a
competitive match; they have also yet to lose any match in the 2015
AFCON qualifiers.
Emenike, who spoke withSports Radio Brila FMadmits that Wednesday’s match will not come cheap for the African champions.
He said, “We are expecting a tough game because they (South Africa)
have qualified, so we understand they will be playing for pride.”
The Fenerbahçe striker added that Saturday’s match in Pointe Noire was
difficult because the team had to play on artificial turf.
“It was
really tough in Congo and on artificial turf. I think it’s going to be
okay now, especially because we’ll be playing at home and on grass,” he
said.
The 2013 AFCON top goal scorer, who had yet to score in the
qualifiers, was substituted in the second half of the match for
match-winner Aaron Samuel.
Meanwhile, Eagles captain, Vincent
Enyeama, has appealed to the fans in Uyo to come and cheer the team to
victory against South Africa.
The Lille shot stopper told Football
Live, “We have just a foot in it; we have not qualified yet because we
have a game in hand.
“We must endeavour as a team and especially as
supporters that we come en masse to the Stadium against South Africa on
Wednesday.”
