Hijirah: Osun declares public holiday today

Publicworkers in Osun State are expected to stay at home today following the public holiday declared by the state government in commemoration of new Muslim Year Hijirah 1436.
The state government had, last week, declared today, October 27, public holiday to allow Muslim fateful in the state to participate in the celebration of the event.
Since the assumption of office of the present administration in the state, the state government has been declaring public holiday for the event along with those for other religion groups.
Speaking at the celebration held last Saturday at Osogbo Sports Stadium, Governor Rauf Aregbesola said Hijrah is compulsory, bringing Muslims closer to what Allah has called them to do on the use of Sun and the moon in counting days.
According to Aregbesola on the celebration, tagged, ‘Building an ideal Islamic home” Islam is not a religion of violence, but peace. Every Muslim must be aware of the teaching of the Prophet on the need to shun wickedness.
The governor added that Muslims must not be found in any act that will tarnish Islam. “There is no basis for anybody or groups to hide under Islam to perpetrate evil.
