Group Hails Jonathan on Successes against Insurgents

President Goodluck Jonathan has been commended by a socio-cultural body, the Citizens' Cultural Renaissance Initiative, CICURI, for the steady routing of insurgents in the North-east of the country by the Nigerian military.
The group in a statement said that it was a pointer to the resolve by the administration to defeat terror and restore normalcy to law abiding citizens as his oath of office prescribed and called on all hands to be on deck to achieve that.
CICURI stated this through its Secretary General, Beke Konya who pointed out that the successful campaigns against the insurgents had marked the beginning of the defeat of terror as promised by Jonathan in various fora.
"When the President asserted last month that ‘We will defeat terror and I will lead Nigerians to achieve this’, he assuredly promised Nigerians, even in the heat of viral insurgents’ attacks, that insurgency will ultimately be defeated in our land.
"Today, with the spate of arrests of masterminds of, after almost, every bombing, the recapture of Boko Haram bases in Sambisa, Balmo and Gwoza, the capture of Boko Haram's self-confessed 'chief Butcher'- Zakari Mohammed, the elimination of the face of Boko Haram - ‘Abubakar Shekau’, the continuing surrender of hundreds of insurgents, among others, even some of the ardent critics now admit that the peace and tranquility in the North East have vastly improved.
"With these successes, which we see as just the beginning steps in winning the undoubtedly difficult war against terror in our land, there could not have been a better present for this Eid-El Kabir and Independence celebrations”, the group enthused.
They also called for support of the military and other security agencies that have put their lives on the line to ensure they protect the territorial integrity of the country, adding that lionising insurgents was a disservice to those who face the bullets to restore peace to civilians.
On plans to boost the morale of the troops, CICURI said, "Our organisation will in the days ahead, in partnership with other willing patriots, launch a support initiative to support our troops and their families. That is a duty we owe our fatherland”.
