Five Persons Killed, 12 Injured in Bauchi Bomb Explosion

Barely a week after the federal government announced a ceasefire deal with the outlawed Boko Haram sect, five persons were killed while 12 others sustained varying degrees of injuries in a bomb explosion at a motor park roundabout on Wednesday night at Azare town in Bauchi State.
Azare is the commercial nerve centre in the northern part of the state, which is a four-hour drive from the state capital.
Our source learnt that the incident which occurred around 9.55p.m. in the busy area of the town, caused panic and anxiety among residents who scampered for safety.
Confirming the incident while briefing journalists yesterday in Bauchi, the state Police Command Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Haruna Mohammed, disclosed that the five persons were burnt beyond recognition.
He said those injured were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in the town for medical attention.
The PPRO further added that all the corpses had been evacuated to the mortuary.
Our source gathered that the entire surrounding had been cordoned off and the scene secured by the Police Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit from the state Police command headquarters.
However, no arrest has so far been made but investigation had commenced to ascertain the cause of the incident.
