The biggest coffee drinkers exposed
A new survey has pinpointed which professions glug the most coffee,
with journalists, teachers and police officers said to knock back the
highest volumes.
It's not uncommon to start your day with a steaming
cup of coffee, and most people walk past numerous coffee shops on their
way to work/the gym/on the school run. And then it hits 11 and it's
time for another cup, maybe with a snack
to perk up your morning. How about when you get home? Definitely time
for another mug while you put your feet up and relax.
But it's been
found journalists, teachers, police officers, plumbers and trade workers
can drink double that - averaging five to six cups every day.
UK-based press distribution company Pressat surveyed 10,000
professionals and found 85 per cent said they drink at least three cups
of coffee a day.
On their top ten list of coffee drinkers, nurses
and medical staff, company executives and telesales workers came lower
down, with an average of three to four cups a day.
Coming in underneath these professions were those working in IT and retail staff, consuming two to three cups.
Bottom of the table are drivers, who only indulge their caffeine habit with one or two cups daily.
Other notable results Pressat found were nearly 70 per cent of those
studied admitted their working ability would be affected without a daily
mug of coffee.
Seventy-one per cent of respondents also admitted to downing coffee purely for a caffeine kick, and not for the taste.
There have been numerous studies looking at the effects of coffee, with experts divided over how it impacts your health.
NHS Choices states drinking more than four cups of coffee a day may
increase your blood pressure, and can lead to dehydration if it's your
only source of fluid. Other works have found a link between high
caffeine intake and diabetes, coronary heart disease and stroke.
In
comparison, different research into the area has found drinking moderate
amounts of coffee (around four cups) can actually reduce the risk of
heart failure.
It's important to make sure you're drinking enough fluids throughout the day, so bare this in mind with your coffee intake.
