Helicopter landing: School accuses Police Affairs Minister of trespass
Management of Bodija International School, Ibadan, Oyo State, has
accused Minister of Police Affairs, Mr. Jelili Adesiyan, of trespass by
landing his helicopter on the playground of the school without approval.
Already, the school has petitioned Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State, alleging that the minister’s helicopter destroyed some of its property when it landed around 10:30 am last Sunday.
The petition read in part: “It has been brought to our notice that your
helicopter landed on the school grounds without the knowledge and
consent of the school authorities.
“We hereby remind you sir, that
ours is a private organization and landing the helicopter on our
premises without permission constitutes trespass.”
The petition,
which was signed by Olajumoke Ojo & Co, said since the minister did
not get the consent of the management of the school, his action was
tantamount to trespassing.
He said the action “caused considerable
damage to underlying drainage pipes in the School Sports Arena currently
undergoing major construction works.”
Continuing, Ojo said: “We,
hereby, request that this should not be repeated. As you can imagine,
this action, if repeated, could disrupt educational activities and pose
considerable danger, if the school had been in session.”
The school
started massive construction work on the playground shortly before the
end of third term of last academic session at cost estimated to run into
millions of Naira before the helicopter landed on it.
The school was established by late Supreme Court Justice, Kayode Eso.
