Gov. Orji wins worst governor award, inducted into wall of shame
Since its creation in 1991, Abia State has been bedeviled by rogues in
the guise of governors. But the state has never had a leadership as bad
as it currently does under Gov. Theodore Ahamefule (T. A.) Orji,
sycophantically called “Ochendo.”
Under T. A. Orji’s watch, Abia is only alive on the pages of the newspaper, on television
screens and the radio airwaves. Orji also pays those who feed off
crumbs from his table to come to social media platforms to obfuscate
facts and distort the reality in Abia State.
Under Gov. Orji, Abia is dead and buried and is yet to reincarnate.
All Orji and his son (Abia’s de facto deputy governor) and wife have
done in Abia, for seven years and counting, is buy up all the state’s
choicest properties, transfer the deeds of some government-owned
properties to their own names, share the state’s monthly allocations
from the federal government amongst themselves and their cronies, as
well as terrorize perceived political foes, mostly those bold enough to
speak out against their atrocities in Abia.
As the Orjis and
their friends live in opulence off Abia’s wealth, Abians silently live
in penury, fearing harsh repercussions of speaking out against them:
kidnap, torture, murder.
But one would never read the true Abia
stories in the newspapers. Television stations will never show them.
And nobody dares talk about them on the radio. Rather, all one hears and
sees and reads about Abia are carefully crafted lies and deceit, all
because Nigerian media outlets have been bribed by Gov. Orji (who, by
the way, is a member of Nigeria’s ruling PDP) not to speak truthfully
about the Orjis’ reign of terror in Abia State.
Last week, at
an event organized in Umuahia by Gov. Orji to celebrate the 23rd
anniversary of the creation of Abia State, billionaire businessman,
Arthur Eze, without mincing words, told the gathering the simple,
unadulterated truth about Abia State under Orji’s watch:
“Abia
State stinks. Abia is stinking! Right from the Abia Tower in Umuahia,
the rot hits you. Abia State is now the dirtiest in the country. There’s
garbage everywhere along with bad roads. The people are really
suffering and you see it in their faces.”
In July, just weeks before
Eze bared his mind to stupefied and shocked Gov. Orji, kaanayo.com
conducted “The Worst Governor in Nigeria Award” poll on Facebook.
Gov. T. A. Orji’s “The Worst Governor in Nigeria Award” certificate
More than 90 per cent of the poll respondents strongly agreed Gov. Orji
is the worst governor in Nigeria – not only in the current democratic
dispensation, but since the country attained independence in 1960 –
prompting members of the Editorial Advisory Board of kaanayo.com to
induct him into their newly instituted “Nigeria’s Wall of Shame.”
Gov. Orji is the first person ever to be inducted into this exclusive club.
Gov. Theodore Ahemefule Orji was already in jail, awaiting trial for
robbing Abia blind, when he was “selected” and declared winner of Abia
State’s gubernatorial election by his predecessor, Orji Uzor Kalu, in
2007.
Gov. T. A. Orji rigged himself into office for a second
time in 2011. He has perfected plans to handover the mantle of
leadership of Abia to one of his cronies come 2015, while he heads off
to the Nigerian Senate to lead a life of leisure.
