More blessings for Okagbare •Wins 200m women’s event •As Brume claims gold in long jump


SENSATIONAL Blessing Okagbare on Thursday won the 200m gold at the ongoing 20th Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland with a time of 22.25 seconds.

Okagbare, who had earlier claimed the 100m gold with a time of 10.85 seconds to set a new games record, lived to the pundits’ expectations when he dusted Jodie Williams of England who returned in a time of 22.50 seconds.

Willams’ sister, Bianca settled for the bronze medal when she returned in a time of 22.58 seconds.

Okagbare, who remains the only Nigerain athlete to win two gold medals in the Games went on a lap of honour after the race with Nigeria’s flag which she received from the former African queen of the track, Mary Onyali-Omagbemi, who serves as special adviser to the Director-General of the National Sports Commission.

Meanwhile, Ese Brume also on Thursday night won another gold medal for Nigeria in the women’s long jump event.

Brume with a jump of 6.56m dusted Jazmin Sawyers of England (6.54m) and Canadian Christabel Nettey with 6.49m.
