Lazio to offer Onazi new contract
Lazio are moving to hand Nigeria midfielder Eddy Onazi a new and improved contract to see off English interest in the player.
Onazi is of interest to Sunderland, Southampton and Everton, and is currently amongst the lowest paid members of the Lazio senior squad, taking home just €200,000 per year.
According to Italian outlet Calcio Mercato, Lazio are moving to tie
down Onazi to a new contract and recently met with his agent Jonathan
Barnett.
The midfielder wants his salary to be upped to around €1m per year in appreciation of his progress in Rome .
And Lazio president Claudio Lotito is ready to do all he can to keep Onazi out of the hands of his English suitors.
The 21-year-old midfielder impressed Lazio during a trial in 2011 and
was quickly snapped up, then being fast-tracked into the senior squad.
Onazi, who has won 21 caps for Nigeria , made his Serie A debut in 2012 as a 90th minute substitute.
The midfielder, who won the Coppa Italia with Lazio in 2013, made 29
appearances in Serie A for the capital club last term, and was in the
Nigeria squad for this summer’s World Cup
