2015: Jonathan pleads for patience •Group to deposit N19.5m for nomination form
AMIDST the ongoing agitation from various quarters demanding that
President Goodluck Jonathan declares his ambition for the 2015
presidential race, Jonathan, at the
weekend, assured Nigerians and the international community that he would
respond to the clarion call of making himself available again for the
service of the fatherland in the next political dispensation very soon.
President Jonathan, who spoke in Abuja on Saturday, at a rally tagged:
“Return Jonathan 2015 Rally,” organised by one of the campaign groups
seeking his re-election, House to House Campaign Organisation for
Democracy, appealed to all and sundry to be little patient with him, but
assured that he would not let them and the nation down.
The
president, who was represented at the rally attended across the 36
states of the federation and Abuja by his Senior Special Assistant on
Youths and Students’ Matters, Jude Imagwe, however, assured that the
Federal Government, under his administration, would provide a level
playing ground for all political parties to operate ahead the 2015
general elections, as obtained in the previous elections held in Edo,
Ondo, Anambra, Ekiti and Osun states, with the principle of “one man,
one vote” being at the centre stage.
He urged Nigerians to
unite against evil activities of the insurgents threatening the
corporate existence of the country, saying there were gains in unity, as
it would allow for the growth and the general development of the
country, which would make it maintain its leadership position in the
African continent.
On the missing Chibok girls and the call by a
section of the Northern elders that there would be no general elections
without rescuing them, the president advised against politicising or
turning the all-important national concern to ethnic issue, as all hands
were on the deck, as they were working round the clock with appropriate
agencies to rescue the girls alive and reunite them with their
respective families.
This came just as the campaign
organisation formally declared President Jonathan wanted to immediately
declare for the 2015 presidential race under the Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP), saying Nigerians had waited for too long and would no
longer tolerate any further delay.
Addressing the rally, the
Director-General of the campaign organisation, Honourable Ogidi Ben
Bara, who publicly declared President Jonathan wanted for the race, in
accordance with the yearnings and aspirations of Nigerians, disclosed
that the women wing of the campaign organisation had already raised a
sum of N19.5 million and would be depositing the amount at the Wadata
Plaza National Secretariat of the PDP to purchase the nomination form
for the race for Jonathan, saying he was even at liberty to declare his
intention at the comfort zone of his bedroom.
