VOTERS’ CARDS NOW BEING SOLD FOR N10,000
Osun State Commissioner for Youths, Sport and Special Needs, Mr.
Stephen Kola-Balogun yesterday raised the alarm that voters’ cards are
now being sold for N10, 000 in the state.
The commissioner, who condemned the development at a press briefing
yesterday, said information at his disposal revealed that it was the
handiwork of some people who collected some voters’ cards in exchange
for N10, 000.
Balogun condemned the attitude; describing it as
undemocratic and a new approach in the politics of the state, calling on
concerned authorities to right the wrongs before it goes out of hand.
The commissioner, who stressed that the same thing is being extended to
elderly ones, hinted that they would ask them to fill a form and get it
exchanged for money.
“It has come to my notice that some
people are currently collecting voters’ cards of youths in exchanged for
N10, 000 while the elderly ones are being tricked to submit theirs for
peanuts.
“As the Commissioner for Youths and Special Needs, the
unfolding scenario is not acceptable, it is criminal and no reasonable
government will watch the vulnerable been dubiously exploited without
moving against it.
” He, however, called it a criminal offence, charging people not to sell their voting rights in exchange of money.
“This is unprecedented. It is high time we condemn it. Everybody should
not sell their voting rights. The elderly are being tricked; youths are
selling theirs willingly for N10, 000.
