Pastor, civil servant arraigned for fighting in public
 

A 33-year‑old pastor, Nathaniel Ogwuche and 43-year‑old civil servant, Benjamin Amadi, Tuesday, appeared before a senior magistrate’s court in Mararaba, Nasarawa State, on a one-count charge of disturbing public peace.

The prosecutor, Cpl. Jacob John, told the court that on July 5, the DPO of ‘A’ Dvision Police Station, Mararaba, received a report that the accused persons, both of Aso in Mararaba, engaged in fisticuffs.

Jacob said the accused persons in the process disturbed public peace and also caused different degrees of injuries on each other.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 113 of the Penal Code.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge against them.

Counsel to the accused, John Agbo and K.K. Peter prayed the court to grant their clients bail, adding that they were peaceful and responsible citizens.

The Senior Magistrate, Mr Aliyu Aku said there must be witnesses to prove that the accused were peaceful and responsible citizens.

Aku, however, granted the accused bail in the sum of N150,000 each with responsible sureties in like sum each.

He said that the sureties must show evidence of landed property within the jurisdiction of the court.

Aku added that both parties must sign an undertaking, and adjourned the case till August 6 for hearing.
