NIGERIA'S LOSS: SAD MARK CALLS FOR RESTRUCTURING OF FOOTBALL ADMINISTRATION
Senate President, Senator David Mark, in a swift reaction to Nigeria's
ouster from ongoing World Cup in Brazil monday, called for the
restructuring of the entire football administration in Nigeria with a view to achieving a purposeful and result-oriented goal.
"I think we really need to go back and see how we can restructure the
entire football teams not just the Super Eagles to make them
result-oriented," depressed Mark said last night after Nigeria crashed
out of the Brazil 2014 FIFA World Cup with 2-0 loss to France.
Mark, who watched the match along with the Senate Leader, Victor
Ndoma-Egba and Culture and Tourism Minister, Edem Duke, in his Apo
official residence added: "I am sure when the Nigeria Football
Federation (NFF) President Aminu Maigari comes back from Brazil, he will
need to review the situation, identify the problems and explain to
Nigerians what went wrong."
After the call, Mark chose to
console himself, saying there must be a winner in any match after all,
this is football. There has to be a winner and a looser.
Unfortunately, our Super Eagles could not fly today (yesterday). We were not lucky."
Mark who had led the federal government's delegation to the opening
ceremony of the tournament in Brazil last month, however, thanked
Nigerians for their support to the Super Eagles, reiterating that Sports
especially football had become an international tool for the
measurement of strengths and weaknesses of various nations of the world.
He said this evaluation should not be trivialised.
"For the fact that football is now a tonic for our unity in Nigeria, we must take it seriously and invest in it," he added.
