EMBATTLED Nigeria Football Federation [NFF] president, Aminu Maigari has been reinstated in office after a court order restraining him and other executive committee members of the federation was vacated on Wednesday.
The development ensured Nigeria beat the July 17 deadline given by the world soccer-governing body, FIFA, which had placed the country under suspension over what it referred to as “government interference”.
Nembe City chairman, Mrs Ebiakpo Rumson Baribote, had instituted a suit at the Plateau State High Court in Jos that restrained the NFF board and its congress from managing football affairs in Nigeria.
The NFF was subsequently suspended by FIFA for government interference following the appointment of Lawrence Katken to run the football house by the sports minister, Dr Tamuno Danagogo.
But on Wednesday, Justice L.P. Lot of the High Court in Jos vacated the case against Maigari and his NFF board, as Nigeria moves closer to beating further sanctions from FIFA.
Reinstated NFF general secretary, Musa Amadu, has already communicated the latest development to FIFA.
Maigari and the NFF executive committee members have now returned to office as instructed by FIFA before it can lift the suspension.
It is expected that the world football governing body, FIFA, will announce the lifting of the suspension of Nigeria since the court case has been vacated and the NFF executive committee reinstated.
The Super Eagles’ performance and eventual qualification for the Round of 16 at the just-concluded World Cup in Brazil has impacted on the July FIFA rankings, as Nigeria now occupies the 34th position.
In the rankings released by the world football-governing body, FIFA, on Thursday, Nigeria garnered 660 points and moved up 10 spots as against June’s 631 points at 44th position.
Although Nigeria may not have been too convincing at the 2014 World Cup, their performance was good enough to earn them a lift.
The African champions now place third in Africa behind Algeria and Cote d’Ivoire.
Algeria, now ranked Africa’s best team, has 874 points to occupy the 24th position in the world, while Cote d’Ivoire, with 850 points, occupies the 25th place in the world.
However, another African representative at the World Cup, Ghana, slipped down by one spot to 38th in the world and fifth in Africa, behind Egypt who remained static with 645 points.

On the global scene, four-time world champions Germany reaped the reward of their triumph at the World Cup.
They now lead the table for the first time in 20 years with 1,724 points as World Cup runners-up, Argentina places second with 1,606 points, while third-place finishers the Netherlands moved 12 positions up the table and are now third in the world with 1,496 points.
