COMMISSIONER DEBUNKS ASSASSINATION PLANS ON AKWA IBOM MONARCHS

The allegation that Governor Godswill Akpabio plans to eliminate prominent monarchs of Ibibio extraction in Akwa Ibom has been described as malicious, unfounded and concocted lies intended to generate ethnic tension in the State.

According to the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Aniekan Umanah, while speaking with newsmen in his office, the alleged plot to eliminate the Paramount Ruler of Etinan Local Government Area, Edidem Umoette, and Edidem Ime Udousoro Inyang of Ibiono Ibom is the height of mischief by political jobbers who are bent on scoring cheap goals for their pay masters.

Mr. Umanah who noted that Governor Godswill Akpabio, has tremendous respect for the traditional institution, emphasised that it would be absurd to think of the governor as planning to hurt any monarch in the State,describing such allegation as frivolous and wicked.

He recalled that Chief Akpabio has on many fronts, has demonstrated his reverence and love for the royal fathers by restoring the dignity and pride of the traditional heritage in providing for their well-being.

The Commissioner, who described Governor Akpabio as a God fearing man, said the Governor had a very fruitful meeting with all the Paramount Rulers in the State few days ago and enumerated benefits that have accrued to the royal fathers courtesy of the Akpabio administration to include provision cars for all Clan Heads in the State, provision of at least three brand new Jeeps for paramount rulers, provision of security details complete with HILUX trucks as security back up vehicles and other ancillary services befitting of their status as custodians of our culture and heritage.
