BBN```

There's a notorious programme currently going on called THE BIG BROTHER NAIJA. The winner of this notorious show is expected to walk away with a whopping N40 something million and a breathtaking car.
All that is required to win this show is to be Live with a bunch of fellow crazy, irresponsible people, do all sorts of immoral things, and, viola, you're the winner.

Next thing, you're called a celebrity, winning big advertisement contracts and becoming the face of multinational companies.

If only there could be an educating version of this programme. If only they could house some intelligent people in like manner and make them compete for similar prizes. But, no! Our people do not encourage sanity. Our society promotes evil over good, indecency over decency, immorality over morality, and ungodliness over godliness.

The best in Mathematics competitions will go home with either a carton of cowbell milk or Indomie noodles, ridiculous stipends and laughable prizes. Yet these morons in BBN will earn millions for coming to suck breasts, speak thrash, display nudity, and get under the sheets on International TVs.

Our rich individuals, companies and corporate organisations will spend huge sums of money sponsoring dirty shows like BBN and Beauty Pageants where they will enthrone satanic activities, display nudity, molest our under aged girls, and make them win on bottom power rather than on real beauty and brains. Can anyone forget the Anambra State born Chidinma Okeke saga in a hurry?

What a wasted generation! What a time! How do we raise, nurture and produce the next Chike Obis, Chinua Achebes, Wole Soyinkas, Cyril stover, Apostle olatunde Adekunle, and yes, P.O.C. Akorefes???? What foundation are we laying for coming generations? What message of hope and legacy are we leaving behind? What epistle are we sending to the future to testify to it that the past made some level of contributions. Is Immorality the legacy we really want to hand down to the next generation?
Are we not losing our minds?

Let all people of good will come together and raise alarm against this dirty programme. Let us in one voice and unison say, we've had enough of this nonsense. We should see that this programme is replaced with a more intelligent and educative programme.

Please share until a thought process is provoked in the heart of everyone and we can stand and say enough is enough.
Our kids now act like what they see on TV.

Keeping an Empty Space. ***************************** Unilag Students Sparked this Piece ***************************** Who are you waiting for?

Keeping an Empty Space. *****************************
Unilag Students Sparked this Piece *****************************
Who are you waiting for?

Today, in a General Class, a student kept a seat ( a must do ritual for close friends ) for her friend who never came to sit on it throughout the lecture. In the process of keeping the seat for her friend, she sent many people away by telling them that the empty chair belong to someone. She put her bag on the chair while waiting for her friend who never came. At the end of the class, the friend she had kept a seat for was sitting and talking to another person. It was after the lecture was over that she discovered that her friend had been in class, sitting with another friend of hers, from the beginning of the lecture to the end. The seat remained empty till the class was over.

I was inspired to write on Keeping Empty Space because of this incident. The truth is, those people we are waiting for will never show up at some points in our lives. Who are you keeping an empty space for? Does the person even recognize your help? How many good people have you sent away in your life while waiting for the right person to come and fill the vacuum in your life? There are times you're going to have empty spaces in your live, when those times come, do not wait for the old people to come and fill the spaces as usual. Give rooms to new people in your life. The person you're waiting for may not recognize your effort and the stress you've to go through in retaining the space. He may not even know you're keeping a space for him because he has put his focus on somewhere else. I know you've to show to others that you care but you shouldn't do that at your own expense of meeting other people who can fill the space you've left for people who never come. Stop keeping an empty space! things and people you're waiting for may never show up and the things and people you neglect may never come back. Be free from caging yourself in the process of liberating others..... Spread your wings...... Keep a space and, if the person doesn't show up, allow other people who have good intentions towards you to fill it!.

Man released after 11 years in prison waiting on death row

Firstclass Newsline gathered a man, Mr. Ganiyu Wahab, who has been on
death row for 11 years, finally regained freedom as he was discharged
and acquitted by a Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos.
Wahab was arrested on January 23, 2005 on the allegation of murder and
subsequently convicted and sentenced to death on July 2, 2007 in a
judgement delivered by Justice Oluwayemi of Lagos High Court.
The case against Wahab at the High Court was that he murdered one
Kolawole Alaran on January 23, 2005 by stabbing him with a bottle.
It was alleged that the murder took place at the Agboyi area of Lagos
State. At the end of the trial, the lower court found him guilty and
sentenced him to death.
Following the appeal against his conviction and sentence by the Legal
Defence and Assistance Project, LEDAP, a panel of justices presided
over by Justice Abimbola Obaseki- Adejumo of the Court of Appeal,
Lagos Division, on July 13, 2016, unanimously allowed the appeal of
the appellant and set aside his conviction and death sentence.
The court, in considering the appeal, resolved all issues raised in
favour of appellant.
In its decision, the court found that the conviction of the appellant
on the evidence of the first prosecution witness, who was the only
eyewitness called, and the confessional statement of the appellant
were erroneous as both evidences contained different facts.
The court further held that the prosecution failed to prove its case
beyond reasonable doubt.

Army releases 249 Boko Haram suspects

Firstclass Newsline gathered that the Nigerian Army yesterday said 249
suspected Boko Haram terrorists and accomplices, arrested by troops in
several mop-up operations, had been released on the orders of the
Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Buratai after being cleared by
the Joint Military Interrogation team in Maiduguri.
File: Rescued Boko Haram Captives
A statement by Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani
Kukasheka Usman, said those cleared and released include 169 males, 46
women and 34 children.
Further breakdown shows that 203 of them were from 18 Local Government
Areas of Borno State, while 44 were from states of Adamawa, Jigawa,
Lagos, Oyo and Yobe with two, two, one, one and 38 respectively.
However, two of them were from the Republic of Cameroon.
The statement said: "The released persons were handed over to Borno
State government through the Commissioner for Local Government and
Emirate Affairs, Alhaji Usman Zanna by the Acting General Officer
Commanding 7 Division, Brigadier General Victor Ezugwu. The two
foreigners were however handed over to the Borno State Command of the
Nigerian Immigration Service."
Speaking, the Commissioner advised the released detainees to remain
law abiding and go about their lawful businesses.
He lauded efforts of the military in the fight against terrorism and
respect for human rights as manifested in the painstaking efforts that
led to their clearance and subsequent release.
Each of released detainees was given a token of N3,000 each by the Commissioner.
In another development, troops of 101 Battalion, 7 Division Garrison
on patrol with some Civilian JTF, intercepted a suspected male suicide
bomber at Sabon Gari Jidari.
The suspect carrying primed Improvised Explosive Devices, IEDs,
concealed in a blue stabilizer casing gave his name as Yusuf Tasiu.

FG eliminates common entrance interview test into Federal Government colleges

Firstclass Newsline gathered that the Minister of Education, Adamu
Adamu, has announced the cancellation of the interview test for
National Common Entrance Examination, NCCE, into Federal Government
colleges. This came as former Minister of Education, Dr Oby
Ezekwesili, yesterday, stressed the urgent need to overhaul the
education system in the country to avoid total collapse of the sector.
A statement issued by the Federal Ministry of Education yesterday in
Abuja, said the cancellation of the test for NCCE would take effect
from the 2017/2018 academic year. The statement signed by the Deputy
Director, Press, Bem Goong, said the minister could not establish the
rationale for a second test for NCCE organised by the National
Examination Council, NECO.
"The second test is an unnecessary additional financial burden on
parents/guardians," it quoted Mr. Adamu as saying.
"The era of multiple examinations attracting prohibitive fees cannot
be accommodated by the Buhari administration, especially against the
backdrop of government's determination to increase access to education
as a platform for breaking the cycle of poverty," the statement read.
It said Adamu had directed NECO to strengthen its examination
processes with a view to achieving quality and credible examination
for admission into unity schools at the first test. The statement said
the minister argued that multiple examinations did not necessarily
translate to the admission of quality pupils in secondary schools.
Mr. Adamu maintained that the 2016/2017 academic year remained the
effective date for the ban on Post-UTME, advising vice-chancellors to
adhere strictly to the policy in the overriding public interest.
Meanwhile, former Minister of Education, Dr Oby Ezekwesili, yesterday,
stressed the urgent need to overhaul the education system in the
country to avoid total collapse of the sector. Ezekwesili, who stated
this in Abuja, at the 2016 Nigerian Education Innovation Summit
organised by Education Partnership Centre, EPC, said education left in
the hands of policy makers was problematic.
She said: "Systems are very important; when you have system, then you
have a higher probability of good outcomes.
''If your systems are not functional, then you would need to overhaul
them, because disfunctional systems, can't give you any good outcome.
"When we talk about education, you have to look at it as a system
that has input, output, outcome and your measurement of the impact
that the outcome really stand for.
''When you do that, you will realise that we have been in serious
trouble since the time that I was even Minister of Education. The
Managing Director of EPC, Dr. Modupe Adefeso-Olateju, urged the
Federal Government to scale up educational intervention in Nigeria and
ensure every child in Nigeria benefitted from it. "Every
stakeholders in the sector must ensure that every child in Nigeria
benefits from successfully tested education interventions by focusing
on efforts to scale up impact,'' he said.

Heavy spill as Avengers blow up SPDC facilities in Delta

Firstclass Newsline gathered that the dreaded militant group, Niger
Delta Avengers, have once again blown up crude oil trunkline belonging
to the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria in Batan, Warri
South-West Local Government Area of Delta State.
It was gathered that the incident occurred at about 12.05am on Monday.
The fresh attack happened around Camp 3, few kilometres away from the
spot where the militants had recently also attacked oil installations
early this month.
It took soldiers over five hours before finally confirming the attack.
Findings revealed that a technical team from Pipelines and Product
Marketing Company drafted to the spot could not curtail the spill as
of 4.32pm, as crude was said to still be gushing out of the attacked
pipeline.
Sources from the community, who confirmed the attack to firstclass
newsline, said soldiers had a difficult time locating the attacked
pipeline because of it remoteness in the swamp of Batan.
The sources said the militants shot sporadically for some minutes
before detonating devices to blow up the pipeline.
A top military officer confirmed the attack when contacted by
firstclass newsline, saying his men had a hard time identifying the
spot as it was too remote for military personnel to easily access.
The Chairman of Batan Community, Dickson Ogugu, when contacted,
confirmed the incident and appealed to the militants to halt their
hostility on oil installations in the region especially within the
Batan axis.
Ogugu, who lamented the spate of attacks on oil facilities within the
region, urged the militants to accept the offer of dialogue that the
Federal Government was offering them in the interest of peace.
He lamented that his kinsmen could no longer go for fishing which was
their main occupation, thereby leading to lack and hunger among the
people.
A PPMC source, who confirmed the incident to firstclass newsline,
said that the pipeline which served the Warri refinery and Forcados
had just been fixed after the militants attacked it about three weeks
ago.
Although the militant group had yet to take responsibility for the
attack, the industry source added that the pipeline only resumed
supply of crude few days ago before being attacked again on Monday.
It added that the spill was enormous, making it hard for the
technical/maintenance team deployed to the spot to curtail it.
The spokesperson for the 4th Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Benin,
Edo State, Capt. Musa Maidawa, could not respond to enquiries as of
the time of filing this report.
But the Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Police Command,
SP Celestina Kalu, confirmed the attack.
"There was something of that nature at Camp 3 in Batan community. It
happened around 0030hrs of today (Monday)," Kalu's brief text message
to firstclass newsline read.

Curfew as herdsmen kill Plateau monarch, driver, police orderly

A first class traditional ruler in Plateau State, the Saf Ron Kulere,
Sir Lazarus Agai, who is also the Chairman of Bokkos Traditional
Council, was on Monday murdered in his home village, Sha, by
suspected Fulani herdsmen.
He was the traditional ruler of Bokkos, the hometown of the former
governor of the state, Chief Joshua Dariye.
The traditional ruler was killed when he was coming back from his farm in Sha.
He was killed alongside his driver and police orderly.
Details of the incidents were sketchy as of the time of filing this
report but his death was confirmed by the member representing Bokkos
Constituency in the state House of Assembly, Mr. Sunday Muchen.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Assistant
Superintendent of Police Tyopev Terna, who also confirmed the
incident, said that no one had been arrested in connection with the
killing.
Meanwhile, the Governor of Plateau State, Mr. Simon Lalong, has
declared a curfew in Bokkos in connection with the killing of the
monarch and his aides.
A statement by the Director of Press and Public Affairs to the
governor, Mr. Emmanuel Nanle, on Monday, a preliminary security report
before the governor had confirmed the attack.
The statement read, "The incidence took place at about 3pm yesterday
(Monday) while the chief was on transit from a neighbouring village.
"The governor has therefore summoned an emergency meeting of security
agencies tomorrow (Tuesday) so as to come up with strategies to
prevent reprisals from aggrieved groups.
"To avert any breakdown of law and order, the government has decided
to impose a curfew on the area."
Meanwhile, officers of the 33 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army
in Bauchi State on Saturday killed two suspected kidnappers in a
forest in Dutsen Zaki village, in Ningi Local Government Area of the
state.
The officers attached to the Sector 2, located in Burra town of Ningi
LGA, also captured two of the bandits alive and recovered various
weapons.
The Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 33 Artillery Brigade,
Major Joseph Afolasade, disclosed this while addressing newsmen on
Sunday at the Shadawanka Army Barracks, Bauchi.
He stated that the development followed series of clearing operations
embarked upon by the soldiers to flush out all remnants of criminals
that had been terrorising villages in the area, especially Kanawa,
Rugan Abdulsalami, Diwa and Dutsen Zaki hamlets.
According to Afolasade, the soldiers who were on patrol succeeded in
killing the hoodlums at the Dutsen Zaki Forest and arrested the
wounded ones after a fierce gun battle with the armed kidnappers which
lasted over one and half hours.
He said that there was no casualty on the side of his officers.
The Army spokesman said, "At the end, our gallant troops overpowered
the bandits and succeeded in killing two of the kidnappers and
captured two of the bandits alive.
" We also recovered five AK 47 riffles, three rounds of 7.62 mm
ammunitions, four Bajaj motorcycles, foodstuffs and clothing,'' he
said.
He further stated that such operations were ongoing across the state
and the 33 Artillery Brigade's areas of operation, which include
Yanakari Forest in Alkaleri, Lame Forest in Toro and Buzun Forest in
Ganjuwa Local Government Area.

EFCC grills pilot for transporting Fayose’s N1.2bn cash

Firstclass Newsline gathered that the Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission has quizzed Captain Ahmed Borodo, the pilot whose plane was
allegedly chartered by a former Minister of State for Defence, Senator
Musiliu Obanikoro, to transport N1.219bn to Governor Ayodele Fayose.
The money was alleged to be part of the N4.7bn transferred from the
account of the Office of the National Security Adviser to the bank
account of Sylvan McNamara, a company allegedly owned by Obanikoro's
two sons- Babajide and Gbolahan.
Borodo, who was grilled last week, was quoted as telling detectives
that he flew Obanikoro on June 17, 2014 from Lagos to Akure on an
HS-125 aircraft.
Impeccable sources at the anti-graft agency told Firstclass Newsline
that the pilot admitted that about eight big green tarpaulin or
military bags were loaded onto the plane by Obanikoro's men.
He said at a point, he had to complain to the former minister that the
aircraft was too small and thus could not carry too much weight.
An investigator said, "The pilot told us that on June 17, 2014, he was
instructed by his company around 7am to prepare the aircraft for an
8.30am flight from Lagos to Akure. He was informed that the client was
Obanikoro. He said he along with his colleagues including one Capt.
Olubiyi Famuyiwa got on the plane.
"He said Obanikoro's aides arrived at the tarmac with some bullion
vans and started offloading the contents which were in big green
tarpaulin bags. He informed them that the aircraft could only carry
about eight or nine bags due to its small size.
"The pilot said at that point, Obanikoro intervened and began pleading
with him to allow them load all the bags on the plane but he refused
and then the minister, his ADC and a friend boarded the plane and the
aircraft departed."
Borodo was said to have flown the aircraft to Akure where a bullion
van from Zenith Bank and some soldiers welcomed Obanikoro and received
the money.
Further investigations revealed that Fayose's friend, Abiodun Agbele,
who is currently in the EFCC custody, was among those who received
Obanikoro.
The detective added, "The pilot said on getting to the Akure airport,
some soldiers received them and the bags were offloaded and put into a
bullion van. He noted that the plane returned empty to Lagos.
"He said that the next day, he returned to Akure and then flew
Obanikoro to Abuja with his Aide-de-Camp, Lt. Adewale."
The commission also interrogated the General Manager of the airline,
Mr. Jide West, who told the EFCC that Obanikoro paid $25,200 for both
flights.
